Code: M61 - Large Irish Peat Bucket

A monumental brass bound mahogany Irish Georgian style turf bucket that would be ideal for logs or coal in today's world. The fitted brass liner would also make it suitable for plants and flowers or for umbrellas and sticks. The distinctive carved shell on the spiral-moulded body is a typical Irish furniture motif.

These buckets are often found in pairs flanking a fine marble, or carved wood chimneypiece in grand Irish Georgian houses. The smell of burning turf in Ireland, from humble cottages to great houses, enriches the senses and adds to the magic of Ireland.
