Code: M58 - Specimen Marble Torchere

A carved gilt-wood 'torchere' in the Regency style. The exotic, circular marble top of concentric circles is inlaid with double bands of geometric shapes and seashells. The palm leaf decorated apron, punctuated by carved paterae is raised on square panelled and tapered legs with lion paw feet and a triangular moulded plinth.

This tripod table reflects the English Regency at a high point in its development. A fusion between the Classical combined with the ancient skills of inlaying marble was new for a new century, the 19th century.
