Code: M52 - Regency Laurel Convex

This gilt-wood, Regency design convex looking glass is in a reeded ebonised slip frame. The ribbon wrapped laurel leaf carved outer frame is decorated at each of the crossed ribbons with laurel berries.

Of the varieties of laurel, the small-leaved Laurel nobilis, the evergreen bay, was used to make the victor's crown. The French Empire period saw an increased use of the laurel as a decorative form, often incorporating Napoleonic motifs such as bees and N's, wrapped in laurel leaves.
