Code: M51 - George III Chippendale Oval Mirror

An oval carved gilt-wood looking glass in the manner of George III. The moulded frame is carved with leaves carefully worked with C scrolls both in front and behind the leaves. The double scrolled cresting supports an acanthus leaf spray.

This relatively small oval mirror has a rich Rococo style frame and is formed of linked C scrolls enriched with an abundance of acanthus leaves. The acanthus leaf will be familiar to gardeners, but it has been used historically for the capitals of the Corinthian and Composite orders.
