Code: M5 - Queen Anne Gesso Wall Sconce

This Queen Anne style gilt gesso sconce has a plain moulded frame enriched with a shaped cresting, carved with a shell and acanthus leaves on a punched ground. The shaped apron, which is centred by a brass candleholder, is also decorated with acanthus leaves.

Made with straight sides, this sconce would have originally been placed on a narrow pier wall between two windows. The additional candlelight from this sconce, the candle reflected in the glass for extra light, would have been a welcome addition during the dark winter evenings.
