Regency Egg & Dart Convex Mirror

This relatively simple Regency design convex mirror relies on a minimum of decoration. The mirror plate has an ebonised and reeded slip frame and an inner leaf carved frame. The outer frame is carved with egg and dart moulding and is divided by a textured ground.

The use of an ebonised and moulded slip fame on convex mirrors during the Regency period is thought to be a tribute to Admiral Lord Nelson who was killed at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
