Code: M36 - Regency Eagle & Ribbon Wall Light

One of a pair of wall lights that fulfils the often difficult decision of just how to add light to a formal room. Carved in the form of a ribbon tied bow decorated with gathered acanthus leaves, it supports a carved eagle above a pair of scrolling candle arms. Supplied in pairs, with the birds facing towards each other.

Until the introduction of colza oil and later gas for lighting, candles were in great demand. Lives were ruled by the hours of daylight, people tended to rise earlier and went to bed early. Wax candles were expensive and the number that were burnt after dark became an indication of wealth.
