Irish Georgian style brass bound mahogany turf, or peat bucket. The tapered swirling moulded sides have polished brass bands and faceted and twist grip loop handles; the interiors are fitted with brass liners.

Mahogany buckets used for carrying turf for the fires were an Irish development of the late 18th century. The scarcity of fossil fuels in Ireland led to both the aristocracy as well as working families relying on peat, or turf for their fires.
