The Kent Chiswick House Table

A fine William Kent design pier table, marble top above an acanthus and dentil moulded frieze with acanthus scroll supports flanking a female mask, on a Greek-key and fluted sccole base. The original console tables were executed by William Kent for Lord Burlington’s villa at Chiswick during the 1720’s. At the time, the design of the house and its interior encapsulated English Palladianism and Lord Burlington was regarded as the ‘Modern Vitruvius’. These tables now form part of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s collection at Chatsworth.
